How to Post Your First Give in 5 Minutes

A step-by-step walkthrough of the Post a Give form — every field explained, with tips for writing descriptions that get results.

Before You Start

Before opening the Post a Give form, have a specific person in mind. Think of someone in your professional network whose work you would confidently recommend to your best client — a former client, a trusted vendor, a business partner or colleague whose excellence you have witnessed first-hand.

If you are posting a Give for someone you are not fully confident in, pause. A Give is a personal endorsement. Post only for people you would bet your reputation on.

Step 1: Navigate to Post a Give

From your dashboard, click the "Post a Give" quick action card — the blue card in the top row. Alternatively, go to the Gives section in the left navigation and click the "Post a Give" button at the top of the page.

This opens the two-column give creation form.

Step 2: Contact Details (Left Column)

Fill in the person's professional details:

Contact Name — Their full name. This is how other members will identify them.

Designation — Their current job title or role. Be specific: "Head of Digital Marketing" is more useful than "Marketing Professional."

Organisation — The company or business they work for. If they are independent, use their trading name or "Independent Consultant."

Location — Select their primary city from the dropdown. This helps members assess whether a connection is geographically practical.

Industry — Choose the industry that best describes what they do. Members often filter Gives by industry, so accuracy here increases the chance your Give gets seen by the right people.

Step 3: Your Relationship (Right Column)

Relationship Tag — This is a required field. Select the option that best describes how you know this person:

  • *Former Client* — They were your client and you worked with them directly
  • *Current Client* — They are actively your client right now
  • *Vendor / Supplier* — They have provided services or goods to your business
  • *Personal Friend* — You know them outside of a professional context
  • *Professional Contact* — A colleague or peer you have worked alongside
  • *Former Colleague* — Someone you worked with at a previous employer
  • *Business Partner* — A formal or informal business partner
  • *Mentor / Mentee* — A mentoring relationship in either direction
  • *Relative* — A family member
  • *Others* — For relationships that don't fit the above categories

The relationship tag is displayed on your Give and signals to other members how well you actually know this person. "Former Client" and "Business Partner" carry more weight than "Professional Contact" — be honest.

Step 4: Description

The description is the most important part of your Give. This is where you make the case for why someone should want to meet this person.

A strong description answers three questions: 1. What is this person exceptionally good at? Be specific. Mention results, specialisations, or unique strengths you have personally observed. 2. Who would benefit most from meeting them? Help members self-select — "ideal for any business dealing with manufacturing compliance" is more useful than "great for everyone." 3. Why does your endorsement carry weight? Briefly mention the context of your relationship — "We worked together for 18 months on a supply chain project" tells the reader why your opinion matters.

Example of a weak description: "Great professional, highly recommended."

Example of a strong description: "Suresh ran the IT infrastructure project for our office expansion last year. He managed a team of 8, came in under budget, and resolved a major server issue in 48 hours that our previous vendor had ignored for months. He specialises in SME IT infrastructure — ideal introduction if your business is scaling its office setup or dealing with recurring server reliability issues."

The description field supports up to 1,000 characters. Use them.

Step 5: Review and Publish

Review the details on the right panel — you will see a preview of your Give card showing the contact name, organisation, industry, location, relationship tag, and your name as the giver.

When everything looks correct, click "Post Give." Your Give is immediately visible to all active members in your chapter.

You will earn 10 Give Score credits for posting your first Give, and the system will notify chapter members that a new Give has been posted.

After Posting: What to Expect

Once your Give is live, chapter members can view it and request an introduction. When someone requests an introduction to your contact, you will receive a notification and can see the request in your Introductions section.

You are always in control — no introduction happens without your explicit approval. You will see who is requesting the introduction before you decide.

Your Give will remain active until you archive it. Check your Gives periodically and archive any that are no longer relevant — if your contact has changed roles, retired, or you are no longer confident recommending them. An outdated Give is worse than no Give.
